We had a great holiday in the beautiful "La Bique". The privacy afforded by the location of the pool behind the house was great. Our only complaint - if you can call it a complaint - was the weather! We really felt the lack of air conditioning in the bedrooms upstairs during a +40 degrees heatwave!

Having been let down with our villa booking for 13 people and at very short notice, with flights and car hire already booked and in the school holidays we came across Holiday and cottages and villas .
I have to say without traceys help and support to find another villa, with 98% of properties booked in the dordogne region we would have had to cancel our holiday.
Tracey couldn't have done any more to help us find a property , making numerous calls for us and always kept us updated on progress.
We would highly recommend Holiday Cottages and Villas and will certainly use them in the future when we return to france

A lovely house in a beautiful setting. The pool was perfect and lots of outdoor space to explore. Feedback for improvement would be some air con. It was incredibly hot the week we were there (40’C) and the fans downstairs were great, but the children’s dormitory upstairs was uncomfortably hot. Even a mobile ac unit for those few weeks a year would be great. Pascal was very helpful and when a breezy evening sent lots of debris into the pool, someone came round the next day to vacuum the bottom of the pool. Thanks so much.

We had a lovely time on our holiday, as we usually do, but this was the first time we felt that the price didn’t match the experience. The property, while beautiful in the photos, was quite uncomfortable in reality.
The two upstairs bedrooms had no doors, and the floors were made of single-laid wooden planks with visible gaps, offering no privacy between rooms. The low beams meant that everyone bumped their heads at least once. Because of the open floorboards, mosquitoes had free rein throughout the house—we ended up buying four mosquito nets (thankfully easy to attach), just to get through the nights.
We had stayed in the same villas three or four times before, and this one—despite being the most expensive—was by far the least comfortable. I was surprised none of the previous reviews mentioned these issues. It’s not a place people would come back to and the guest book reflects that. Not for this price.
I fully understand and even appreciate a certain level of rusticity, especially in rural France, but this felt excessive.
Additionally, we experienced some unnecessary stress when, days after paying the full amount, we received an email stating that our booking would be cancelled due to non-payment. While I understand that mistakes happen, a very prompt response and apology should have followed. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

"Whilst we are very sorry that you did not fully enjoy your stay, we are also very surprised by your review, especially your comment that there are gaps in the floorboards in the two upper bedrooms, as we have yet to find them. The floors are the traditional floors of all French farmhouses of the period. We note your comment that there are no doors on the two second-floor bedrooms, both are at the top of staircases ...one a spiral and the other a quarter-turn stair, both off separate landings. The two main bedrooms have doors, and we believe that there is adequate privacy for everyone. There is just one beam in one of the bedrooms that is low for a tall person, and the photographs clearly show the beams, but everywhere else in the house is of a normal height. There have been unusually few mosquitoes this year due to the drought conditions. Unfortunately, you were extremely unlucky, and as I believe, you experienced the only rain we had had for some time, which may have given rise to more mosquitoes. We wish you could have aired your feelings with us before you left, as you gave us to understand you were very happy"
Finally, we note your comment about the email sent due to non-payment of the balance. We have reviewed what happened and note that our system generated an automated email in error on Sunday, 22nd June, stating that your booking may be cancelled if payment wasn’t received within 24 hours, to which you responded the same day. We replied to you the following morning when the office reopened, and apologised for the oversight immediately. It is always our aim to provide the best service possible. We are sorry that the next-day response and apology weren’t satisfactory for you, and apologise again for any concern caused.
