Published by Hauke Timmermann on October 27, 2008
In many of the countries worldwide Google has reached a dominance on the searchengine market. But according to the Financial Times Germany there are a few countries left where that is not the case. In these countries the local searchengines still manage to get a larger market share than Google.
The following post you will point out why that is the case.
These are the five searchengines that still hold their ground in their countries against Google.
- Yandex in Russia (46 % marketshare)
- Seznam in Czech Republic (63 % marketshare)
- Baidu in China und (60 % marketshare)
- Naver in South Korea (60 % marketshare)
- Yahoo in Japan (just above 50 % of all queries)
How is that possible?
- Investments were made before Google
- The technology is perfectly aligned with the language
- Innovations are offered that Google has to copy to be able to compete
- Very High local degree of brand awareness
- The chance to start close strategic alliances with local companies at an early stage
